How many different mouthpieces are there for a trumpet? What are the differences between them?

    There are many kinds - because there are many variables - shape and depth of cup, length of stem, circumference, bore, etc etc.

    Bach mouthpieces are numbered, and the higher the number, the shallower the cup.

    I find that a shallower cup makes easier it is to hit high notes, but the low harmonics tend to be lost from the sound so the tone is compromised. I use a deeper cup, which gives me a lovely rich tone.
