Considering that Bush's tax cuts favor the 'haves' and not the 'have nots', absolutely.

    • Yeah - I'm pretty sure that the new health bill includes increasing the tax only on people who make $350,000/year or more... I think those were the people that saw the tax cuts previously. Sounds fair to me.

    • Wait, so what you are saying is that tax cuts only help those who pay taxes? How ridicules!

    • The tax cuts helped those who had above average incomes. Not everyone who paid taxes.

    • You should take a closer look at the tax cuts and not believe the liberal spin. Under Bush's cuts, the poor (those making about 10k a year) saw the biggest cut of 33%. The next biggest cut was 24%, which went to those making about 60k a year. But if you made 150k or more, your cut was 15% OR LESS. For a graph of all cuts, see: http://www.slate.com/id/2108201/sidebar/2108202/
      ...
And FYI: EVERYONE WHO PAID TAXES did get a cut.

    • So if I earn $500K because of $500K talent and effort, I should have a disproportionate amount of my money taken? If I make 10x what you make, I should pay 10x as many dollars in taxes -- not 15x, 20x, 30x, etc.

    • Who are you asking? I personally think everyone should be taxed equally (i.e. a flat percent). However, I also realize that America has a tiered tax structure because that is the only way it can collect enough taxes to run.

With that said, I understand why a person who makes more is taxed at a higher rate. But the question at hand is whether the Bush tax cuts unduly favor the “haves” as opposed to the “have nots”? And the answer to that question is NO. Repealing the tax cuts will cause a 33% increase in taxes for the poorest Americans, a 24% increase for the middle class, and only a 15% increase for the rich.
