All of the products Glary mentioned are good. Personally I prefer Avast anti-virus, CCleaner is good for cleaning temp files and unneeded or broken registry items. Superantispyware is great for cleaning cookies and other unnecessary items that junk up the place. Windows Defender is for cleaning malware, as is Malwarbytes. I prefer CNet for downloads over PC World, but that is a personal choice. All of these are free with the option to purchase.
Also be sure to use the programs already on your computer, like Disk Cleanup (Start-All programs-Accessories-System Tools) and Defragment (same area). If you've used your computer for some time and haven't defragged it can help tidy things up.
