    Info On The Viola:
The viola (in French, alto; in German Bratsche) is a stringed musical instrument played with a bow which serves as the middle voice of the violin family, between the upper lines played by the violin and the lower lines played by the cello and double bass.

The casual observer may mistake the viola for the violin because of their similarity in size, closeness in pitch range (a mere perfect fifth separates the two), and identical playing position (both rest on the left shoulder). However, the viola's timbre is a rich sonority, more full-bodied than the violin, dark-toned and earthy. Since its deep mellow voice is frequently used for playing inner harmonies, the viola does not enjoy the wide solo repertoire or fame of the violin, and is often underrated. In the right hands, it is capable of expressing both a mournful, penetrating melancholia and a dignified, joyous voice, singular and delightful in its restrained clarity. There are powerful soloists who play the viola with tremendous volume and energy, and there are challenging pieces of music for viola which demand flair and a large range of emotions.

    Info On Violin:
The violin is a bowed string instrument with four strings tuned in perfect fifths. It is the smallest and highest-pitched member of the violin family of string instruments, which also includes the viola and cello.

A violin is sometimes informally called a fiddle, no matter what kind of music is played on it. The words "violin" and "fiddle" come from the same Middle Latin word vitula, meaning "stringed instrument", [1] but "violin" came through the Romance languages, meaning small viola, and "fiddle" through Germanic languages.

A person who plays violin is called a violinist or fiddler, and a person who makes or repairs them is called a luthier, or simply a violin maker.

My Decision is that there is no real difference in the two instruments just that there are a little bit of sound difference. The viola has a sweet and more high pitched sound were as the Violin has a nice smooth and calm sound so it really depends on what sort of sound your looking for. When i was younger i chose the Violin because i thought the Viola was a copy hehe. Hope i helped!
