Should i buy another cat ?

The only thing thats making me think twice is our present cat, Poppy. She's 4years old and we have no problem with her, we would love to get her a play mate and someone she can be around when we're out. However, we are not too sure how she would react to the new kitten. We are cautious that she may run away or even 'bully' the new family member? Anyone with experience or any thoughts, would be great to know!!

  • You can socialize two cats very well if it is done with patience and properly. There are many sites on the internet to give you advice on how to do that. I won't go into them here but do a Google search on "introducing a new cat" One of the things which is important is that the new cat coming in is put in a room by itself. Over a few days they get to know each others sound and smell without being able to strike out or for the little one to get scared. There are tricks you can use, like putting a little used litter from the other one in their litter box to become familiar with their scent. Always have a dish for food, bowl of water and litter box for each one. I once had a 15 year old cat who was becoming slow and "old" I decided to get a kitten to have when the older cat passed on. The kitten brought new life to the old cat who lived another 7 happy years. My personal choice would be to get a female kitten. Poppy will soon adopt her as her own. Two cats are always happier than one so I wish you lots of luck. You have a lot of fun ahead of you and so does Poppy. I had an excellent site with wonderful advice on introductions. If I can find it I will post it here for you in the next day or so.
