    Loyalty is a virtuous concept.

Loyalty is related to the human behavior of commitment.
it is an instinctual sociable concept. Which requires one to believe in an intrinsic value to providing a commitment to an ideal, or person(s).
it is essential to the concept of friendship and family.

Loyalty does have a hierarchy, and ones commitment to one can supersede a commitment to another.

Ex. Most christians believe: God, Family, then country.
