Besides "what's your sign?", what are some good pick-up lines that appeal to either men or women?

    Too Much Time On My Hands

    An easier question to answer would be what pick-up lines don't appeal to me. The answer would be every pick-up line that anyone has ever tried on me. And I've had them in four languages.

    What appeals to me most, as a woman, is a man who has already proven himself to be a good friend. There are plenty of physically attractive and charming men out there, but I won't take seriously anyone who thinks he can get anywhere with a one-liner. This is largely because it's immediately evident that he doesn't take me seriously. And, usually, that he's desperate. Desperate would be the exact opposite of attractive.

    I can meet a stranger, become engaged in high-quality conversation, and talk four hours. Sometimes a one-liner from a friend you've already gotten to know can be really sweet. My boyfriend did grab me with something adorable about Cinderella and the ball, but we'd been developing a close friendship over the course of several weeks. If he'd said the same thing when we first met I would have had a very different opinion of him. When I hear a pick-up line from someone I hardly even know (or, more often, don't know at all) I keep right on walking. Faster. In the other direction.
