I am doing a project about child abuse. Does anybody know any good films where a father or mother abuses his son or daughter?

You're reading Why are so many Catholic priests child molesters?
Comments
unfortunately there are huge numbers of pedophile clergyman. What also is extremely unfortunate for victims past, present and future is the undeniable cover up and protection of these BEASTS of PRIESTS as they are called in Australia.

I would never downplay the suffering of the victims, and the efforts at coverup have been shameful. What I take issue with is "huge numbers." Scandal sells news, and news sells advertising. This also distorts perception of the numbers. I believe the proportion of pedophile clergy is no greater than in any other population. For the victims of any pedophile I feel outrage and sympathy.

The repercussions only came after media scrutiny and pressure. The Catholic bureaucracy knew about it for years, and simply relocated the priests. I would not consider this behavior on the part of the organization to be adequate for the offense, nor do I respect the organization for only taking proper action when under duress.

I absolutely agree with you that the cover-up was shameful and outrageous.
Look at the question that was asked, though.
My answer took issue with the wrong assumption about "so many Catholic priests." I stand by that answer. The Catholic church, like other faith-based organizations, has a few very bad clergy and a great many priests and other workers dedicated to good lives of service.

The numbers of pedophile godgobbers is alarming.FRIGHTENING numbers ov these beasts are lurking around the godgobbers societies.

I did read the question. I'm responding to your answer, which talks about the mass media. If it weren't for the mass media, these priests would still be victimizing children.

AR, the media should have reported on the coverup and the coverup should have been stopped. I don't think he is saying otherwise. However, the media does also have a tendency take a scandal and blow it out of proportion. By focusing just on the bad clergy without making any effort to put the numbers of bad priest into perspective with respect to the numbers of good, faithful priest, the press made the problem seem much bigger that it really was and made it seem as if these pedophile priests were representative of the overall population.

I do not think it is possible to blow out of proportion the clergy molesting children and the organization turning a blind eye. Yes, there are good clergy, but that doesn't mean that a systemic cover up of child molestation is blown out of proportion.

Most Catholic priests do not molest little boys. It is a small percentage. I don't say it is anything but horrendous, however, consider this: There are many more good priests that try and live closely to their vows. My former Pastor walked through Peachtree Center here in Atlanta in 2003 in clerics clothes, the roman collar, and he was spat upon. I don't approve of the way the Church handled the entire situation at all. However, I would say easily 99% of the many clergy I know are good men, trying to do good work. Blame the Vatican and the American Bishops for the coverup, but not those priests like my Pastor who are trying to do a good job.
