Is it true that Jesus was not actually born on December 25th, the day that is commonly celebrated as his birthday?

    All of the answers I have seen to date are very thorough... it's definitely true that the December 25 date was meant to accommodate one or more pagan festivals.

    For what it's worth, a friend who knows way more about astronomy than I do told me that if the three wise men were really following a star in the east that was bright enough to stand out from all the rest, then we're probably talking early springtime. Unfortunately, I don't have the specifics, but I thought I'd mention it.

    • You could not follow a star to a specific spot on this planet, only a general area. This particular star that led the astronomers to Jesus went ahead of them, not above them. Imagine that. . . .
