Question

Help answer this question below.

I'm the executrix of an estate. A bank is requiring letters of testamentary from me. But I'm dealing with assets that are in a trust (non-probatable). Why do I still need these Letters? Is the bank off their rocker?

The "letters testamentary" that the bank is requesting from you serve the purpose of providing legal proof that you have the right to act on behalf of the decedent's estate. The type of property you are seeking information about is irrelevant; you must have the legal authority to act in place of the person who has died. Otherwise, you have no right to any records regarding the decedent.
