In almost every document I've ever filled out that asked about my race/ethnicity, the section about race/ethnicity is labeled "Optional".

I believe it's against the law to require someone to divulge such information.

    • tks for your answer, let me clarify my question and hopefully you can still help. can i switch back and forth? pick black on one form, asin on another, white on the next or am i legally obligated to stay consistant with my selection?

    • As far as I know, you can do whatever you want.

I'm certain that I have not been 100% consistent in my answers on these types of surveys (sometimes I answer, sometimes I pick "Other", sometimes I leave it blank), and I cannot point to any problem occurring because of it.
