No, they test you right there with an onsite tester and if your bloods dirty you can't donate. You're also put on a list that is circulated to all the blood banks to not take your blood. This includes the pay places. Jsut don't waste their time and resources fo rblood they can't use.

You're reading If you smoke marijuana or do other drugs, can you give blood? Do they accept your "tainted" blood?
Comments
That may be true for places where you sell blood, but the American Red Cross does not test for THC or metabolites. If asked, they will specifically allow cannabis users to donate as long as they're not under the influence when donating.

Who ever told you that lied to you. Flat out nobody wants to use blood donated by someone who's actively using drugs. They have to toss it just like the banks do because you can't use it. It will affected the person who recieves it as well as interfear with any medications the hospital gives them. This includes pot. Since THC will stay in the blood stream for at least 30 days it's unusable if you've smoked any within at least that time frame. However, if you've stopped using it and are past that time frame they will allow you to donate. And they will test it to see if it's tainted. If it is the blood gets tossed and you get put in the "Don't allow to donate" data bank they keep.

Think about it. If you were that person would you want the blood of a drug user? I know as someone who doesn't do drugs at all I wouldn't want to find out the blood I received was tainted with THC any more then to find out it was deseased. I'd sue the shit out of someone for it. Especially if I ended up testing positive for it and lost my job or the right to see my kid over it. So just imagine what I would do if the tainted blood I received caused a medical problem due to drug interaction with an illegal substance. I'd own a hospital and the Red Cross.

Let me just say that my company had a blood drive( American Red Cross) yesterday and there were no questions related to drug use except those requiring a needle. I was not questioned at all regarding the marijuana I smoked the day before. Now, it may be that they will test my blood for usage before giving it to a patient in need, but I will never know about it.

That's exaxctly what they do do. You're blood is going to go straight into the trash and next time don't be surprised if they won't let you donate. All you did was waste time and resources. Like I said nobody wants blood that's been tainted by illegal drugs.

if that was the case why do they bother accepting it? they could ask on the day whether you have taken drugs in the form or whatever then at least some people wouldnt give blood in the first place.
