War is a solution to an otherwise irreconcilable conflict of interest.

Imagine you are stranded on an island with someone of the same sex and with an inadequate food supply.

There is only enough food for one of you to sustain..(direct competition)

    Q: What do you do?

    A: Eat them.

If you share, you both slowly starve.

If you hog the food, they get hungry, and kill you in order to survive...or you kill them.

When one of you dies, the conflict of competition dies with you/them.

    Problem solved.

War is a means to a peaceful end.

    • The survival instincts and war are a massive jump in death and such foresight though.

    • Cannibalism isn't exactly war. o.O

BTW, both of you dying is also a peaceful end.

    • Wrong. War is a means to death and destruction. There's no peace to that. War is the biggest racket ever devised.

    • Well, war is A means to a peaceful end, but not necessarily the best means.
