You're reading What do you think of the new points to next rank system? It takes alot more points now to the next rank. ALOT! :) Do you like it, don't care, think it is abit too harsh? What are your thoughts?

But really though, (and I'm still trying to clarify my thoughts on the issue), if people truly don't care about the points, then who cares if someone reaches level thirty in two days? Do people care about the points, or don't they?

Good point.
by MG1942 Has a Life Penguin on May 11th, 2007
Walk in door, dead tired, and find out I need thirteen thousand points to get to next level. Does it suck or doesn't it suck?! Hmmmm, gots to find me some more mod points;)
by gtravels loves her life penguin on May 11th, 2007
Personally, I think it sucks. There was a plenty-high point amount necessary before at the over-50 levels.
by MG1942 Has a Life Penguin on May 11th, 2007
It's gonna turn into a chatroom, because everyone will lose interest in levelling up.
by MG1942 Has a Life Penguin on May 11th, 2007
It's true (about it sucking). The fifties have been like climbing a mountain already. And I know IDNE says she doesn't mind, but if I was at Level Fifty Eight, and all of a sudden, I needed a gazillion more points to reach Maestro, I'd be plenty pissed! Jesus Tap Dancing Christ! (I like saying that;)
by gtravels loves her life penguin on May 11th, 2007
Lol. I need twice as many pts to level up as I currently have!.
by MG1942 Has a Life Penguin on May 11th, 2007
I hope AB has a pension plan or 401k, 'cause I'll be pushin up daisies before I make sage now.
by MG1942 Has a Life Penguin on May 11th, 2007
I know, the whole thing is ridiculous! If your argument is people don't care about points, take them away. If people do care about points, stop trying to reinvent the wheel! There also seems to be this annoying assumption that people who have been here a long time are "Sagely," while newcomers are a bunch of doofuses who have to "pay their dues" to reach their rarified atmosphere.
by gtravels loves her life penguin on May 11th, 2007
Yea, the pt system was just as easy when they made sage.
by MG1942 Has a Life Penguin on May 11th, 2007
@gt and MG: You both take care. I hope they figure something out here. No points would be the most fair thing, although I think alot of people (I include myself) needed and liked the motivation or small reward of some goal or points for the hours of time I spent giving thoughtful answers for the most part. Much too drastic a move. I hope they don't lose more good AB'ers, and I am not saying I am a "good AB'er" but I sure tried to be. Take care you guys. I might come back if they ever get a sensible system worked out.
by YouWinImOuttaHere on May 12th, 2007
Yup yup. Take care, Havagreatday!. I feel the same way.
by MG1942 Has a Life Penguin on May 12th, 2007
Hello yup yup.
by gtravels loves her life penguin on May 12th, 2007
I posted one last post on the Blog, not that it will do any good. I suggested taking everyone back to 1 and starting new (so many of the high level people say points "don't matter" them them, even though I know for me, I was proud of my accomplishments!) or do away with it and give out some other form of gift-reward-goal, that was equal for all.
by YouWinImOuttaHere on May 12th, 2007
People would then have some sense of appreciation from the OWNERS of this place, since without our questions and answers, Google would not have wanted it, and they would not be in existence! Working for free many hours is one thing, but to have nothing much to show for it or make attaining a reward so difficult seems very counterproductive and unfair to me. Maybe I am wrong.
by YouWinImOuttaHere on May 12th, 2007
I don't think you're wrong. I wish they just would have left the whole freaking thing alone. If people really don't care about the points, then it wouldn't matter one way or the other.
by gtravels loves her life penguin on May 12th, 2007
My sentiments exactly. + 13000 "Spirit points" ;)
by MG1942 Has a Life Penguin on May 12th, 2007
You are a sweetheart! But you take longer than a woman to get out of the house;)
by gtravels loves her life penguin on May 12th, 2007
I don't know gt...13,000 points doesn't go very far these days! lol Should be 130,000 points :) No offense MG ;)

by MG1942 Has a Life Penguin on May 12th, 2007
@ Havea:No, I just know she needs 13000 to power-up again. Whatta crock.
by MG1942 Has a Life Penguin on May 12th, 2007
I'll have to take my computer into my coffin with me so I can make Maestro;)
by gtravels loves her life penguin on May 12th, 2007
MG: Well they opened a huge can of worms here. And if they don't fix it or rectify it somehow, I have a feeling I am going to have alot of company spending my free time fishing with those worms, instead of being on AB.
by YouWinImOuttaHere on May 12th, 2007
Yupper. I hear ya, Havea. G and I were discussing that yeaterday.
by MG1942 Has a Life Penguin on May 12th, 2007
Don't worry, G. All those " Spirit Points" will pay off then;-)~. I'm outie, for real this time. c ya l8r;)
by MG1942 Has a Life Penguin on May 12th, 2007
Wouldn't leaving it alone have been the best of both worlds? Those who don't care about points wouldn't care. And those who do wouldn't be pissed off right now!
by gtravels loves her life penguin on May 12th, 2007
ROFL

Well looking at the Blog, Joel is not saying much, so I don't know if that means they realize they made a HUGE blunder, or if they are just going to say "This is it, take it or leave (it)" or what. They surely are not treating us like we are giving them money or alot of our time are they? This decision had nothing to do with finances or the new version. But if they keep it as is, I sincerely hope alot of people who value their time leave, and then they can be left with stupid questions and mediocre-stupid answers, and it will be no better or as good as Yahoo.com or Ask.com.
by YouWinImOuttaHere on May 12th, 2007
I am happy to "volunteer" hours for a good cause. But I need some sort of realistic "cyber" goal or reward or I get bored and also feel unappreciated. They have taken all of that away now.
by YouWinImOuttaHere on May 12th, 2007
And I very much appreciate your bucking the politically correct to say so! And I don't think wanting points and giving quality have to be mutually exclusive. That seems to be the operating theory around here! Again, what do people care how fast others move up if points have no relevance to them!
by gtravels loves her life penguin on May 12th, 2007
When it comes to this place, I see no reason to be politically correct with things of this nature. What are they going to do sue me or try me for sedition or speaking out my opinion after working my ass off for 1.5 months to get to level 48? They can if they wish! lol A "cyber" censure. About the time they stop allowing and better still, listening to "public" opinion on here is the time AB will really go down the toilet.
