Some people, because of the criminals acts, do not deserve to live with the rest of the normal population.

    The death penalty is just.

    • Unfortunately death penalty recipients get to use up some 20 years w/appeals before they actualy walk the "green mile" . . . Our tax $'s at work, while they don't worry about a job, paying bills, taxes, housing, or their next meal! The system is

    • I wonder, KinKStar, how much money is too much money to spend to save the life of an innocent person? That's what we're paying for even when we're paying for the appeals of those who are guilty. Innocent people ARE put on death row. Evidence IS colored or not presented to make a crime appear to be heinous when it isn't. False confessions ARE extracted under duress. Not everyone in law enforcement is altruistic about accused persons. Even if those circumstances are rare, they happen, and thank goodness the appeals system is as liberal as it is. If you were arrested for a crime you didn't do, found guilty, and then found out that the law makers decided that as a cost saving measure it was going to limit your ability to appeal, what would you think? The Bottom Line is important - in business. It has no place in a system of justice.

    • I agree, john pennington, that some, because of their actions, should lose the right to freely mingle "with the rest of the normal population." Hence we have prisons. But I don't know how you can jump from there to "the death penalty is just." The death penalty is just one way of removing criminals from society, and it doesn't follow that that way is better, or more just, than any other for achieving the end you endorse.

    • Don't you know EVERYONE in prison is innocent? Oh, no, never mind, that's just what they all say! Of course the system is seriously flawed, but there truly are not as many innocent people in prisons as those opposed to the death penalty like to say there is. It's unfortunate, but if 1 innocent person dies, along with 99 guilty ones, it's almost okay. Yes, I know, I'd hate it to be MY loved one . . . So, yes, I'm also torn with my opinion, but not so much that I think the death penalty shouldn't exist.

    • I respect your opinions. But, for me, I think the sadness I would feel for the 1 innocent put to death (and their family and friends) would exceed the pleasure I felt in frying the 99 guilty people when there was an alternative: life in a dingy prison with bread and water so the innocent person at least had a chance of getting out if new evidence ever came up. The system is imperfect, and to turn a blind eye to that seems acceptable only if you are not the innocent person strapped to the chair!

    • joro. I would rather I be that unfortunate innocent man than have any member of my family be killed by the 99 murderers who got away with it because we raised the bar enough to prevent me from falling victim to unfortunate circumstances.
