What does the fact that a placebo pain killer can actually stop the pain in a given area tell us about the power of the human mind?

    I think you've answered your own question.
    If one believes that something is going to help relieve one's pain it often does, I guess that is how the mind works sometimes.

    • Yes, I think it is a very interesting and not well understood area of the medical profession.

    • I agree. I asked this question because my wife recently pulled a muscle in her leg while playing tennis. The pain was intense. She stopped, sat down, took a deep breath, and started meditating, focusing on the pain. She then concentrated on sending the necessary "stuff" already present within her body to relieve the pain, and relax the muscle. The pain was gone in minutes, and she was able to continue playing tennis. Facinating stuff, I think. I want to learn more about it.
