Help answer this question below.
It's not about what Palin said, it's about what she's done and not done. Her mismanagement at every level, blatant partisanship and obvious inability to grasp complex issues combined with endless scandals and ethics complaints followed by her resignation as governor of Alaska makes her retarded.
The statement you're quoting, which sounds fine to me, isn't what sank her.
Sarah Plain campaign supporters: Is her silence POTUS run frustrating to you? Absent a commitment to run will you give more?

Sarah Palin threw guests out of her house because they were using baby oil in their bedroom? Is that worth ruining a friendship? Baby oil?

You're reading What is so retarded about this this comment of Sarah Palin : "They're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska." Compare to Tina Fey's : "And I can see Russia from my house".

How many of those ethics complaints were proven to have merit? How many of them were just political enemies trying to ruin her reputation?
by Glenn Blaylock on November 7th, 2009
I don't know and you don't either. That question requires an understanding of the motivations of the people involved and that's not something we can know for sure without being closely involved.
-
The kind of complaints that were leveled at her though, kind of demonstrated that she was mucking around in a gray area, not taking the ethical high ground.

The first question can be answer. NOT ONE of the complaints was proven to have merit. Not one. That could very will indicate that the answer to the second question is that all of the complaints were politically motivated.
by Glenn Blaylock on November 7th, 2009
I could not independently verify that all complaints had no merit. "Not finding wrongdoing" can mean many things as I'm sure you're aware. Nor could I verify that they had all been dismissed. (I did not do an intensive search.)

And you're missing a point. You can't rack up 19 ethics investigations unless you're treading in a very gray area. She's been giving people reasons to question her judgment. This isn't like Clinton's Whitewater investigation where they grabbed onto thin air and badgered him for years with it.

Glenn, let me ask you about the original post. Were we suppose to assume from Sarah Palin's comment that her dealings with Russia as governor of Alaska gave her adequate foreign policy experience to be VP?
by ExactlyTwentyLetters on November 10th, 2009
How many Presidents really have much experience dealing with the leaderships of other countries before they were elected to that office? How much experience did Obama have in dealing with the leaders of other nations before He started his run for the Presidency? As far as I know, he didn't have any. Yes, he had spent significant parts of his life traveling in other countries, but how much time did he actually spend dealing with the leaders of those countries. So, are you going to try to tell me that he was anymore qualified in foreign policy?
-
Palen wasn't even running for the top spot. She was running for the Vice Presidency. However, I would say that she has at least as much foreign policy experience as the man who eventually got elected to the Presidency.
by Glenn Blaylock on November 10th, 2009
Spending significant time traveling to other countries will give you some necessary experience. It's the exposure to other cultures and understanding their differences and similarities that's important. Also, the traveling helps in forming a global view of the world rather than a national one.
-
Palin always came across as a bit of a country bumpkin. This is not meant to take away from her considerable intelligence and focus, just her political sophistication.
-
This business about getting the experience from being Governor? I don't hold that against her. You spin what you have to during an election. It's expected.
