Although science has not been able to fully determine how hypnosis works, it is understood that beneficial change can take place when the conscious mind is suppressed enough to access the subconscious mind. In a relaxed or altered state of mind, suggestions can be made to help an individual achieve a desired outcome, however the person must be motivated for change to occur. In the instance of weight loss, the individual must truly want to lose weight. Hypnosis can help a person lose weight through suggestions that alter unhealthy eating habits in exchange for more nutritious and positive lifestyle changes Hypnosis cannot cause a person to do anything against his will. Hypnosis is not a miracle cure. A person who seeks hypnosis to lose weight will not automatically lose weight without further effort on his part. In other words, it is the mindset that is changed in effect to bring about the desired results. It is also important to note that it may take several sessions with a hypnotherapist before any results are noticed. It takes time to change habits and patterns that are deeply ingrained in the subconscious. Hypnosis may help a person lose weight if he truly has a desire to do so. Understand that hypnosis is a process that helps change one's mindset in order to bring about changes. Find a qualified hypnotherapist who you feel comfortable working with. If you are not comfortable with the process of hypnosis or the hypnotherapist, it may not work because you may be unable to relax your mind. Some people are able to relax more easily than others, making the process more likely to be beneficial. While hypnosis may offer some benefit to weight loss, along with other efforts such as diet and exercise, there is no guarantee. On One Hand: What Hypnosis Can Do
