I don't think they think white people "owe" them anything, other than perhaps equal opportunities and a lack of racism. Nevertheless, they don't get much of either, apparently.

You're reading Why do some people still feel like white people owe black people for something white peoples ancestors did to black peoples ancestors 200-300 years ago? All American slave owners and slaves are dead. Does anyone else think that, that is racist?

You're right, they don't.
What they do get is a special protected status and preference in housing, job application, college admissions, and almost every other situation.
Failure to give them special status counts as racism.

Looking at all the comments, I believe I made the one regarding their own kind aiding in their capture and enslavement.

You know why there are black colleges? Because it's harder to get into a mostly-white college when you are not white. Come down to the South and see how that special protected status is going -- or maybe go down to New Orleans and talk to all those white guys that went on a "n*gger hunt" after Katrina. Protected status my ass.
Oh, I guess that makes it ok for the settlers to have bought them, forced them to work, beaten and raped them, etc. Yay! Problem solved!

In every college that receives State or Federal subsidies, minority racial status is a criterion for admission. Blacks and Hispanics are accepted ahead of whites or Asians with higher grades. There is a quota system, which is legally bound to conform to Federal proportions for racial mixing.
I have supervised admissions in five different colleges in the South, but without several weeks of research, I don't have a source that I can quote.
My earlier statement was and is accurate.

That doesn't mean minorities are encouraged to go to college, nor that they are not discriminated against in those colleges. Believe me, in the South most college kids are racist. I'm sick of them whispering about "n*ggers" and then smiling at any passing black people. Yeah, that's a special status alright, but not in a good way.
