Not free. We are all bound by certain criteria, such as needing to eat, shelter, or access to clean air. Considering it's practically impossible for anyone to live without having to get a job, rely on gov't assistance or being a thief, I would say we're only as free as the amount of money we have access to. The more money you have, the more freedom you have. How many rich people get away with crimes the rest of us wouldn't? How many poor people can gain access to the necessities of life without having to sacrifice either another necessity, such as health care, or face imprisonment?

The free world is some ideal that is impossible to reach currently. Perhaps at some point in the future when all men are treated as equally as they are born, we can say it is truly a free world. I have a feeling that won't happen as long as there is a monetary system in place and people aren't willing to educate themselves. +3

Nah. I don't think politicians are effective at improving society. But I'm not sure who is yet. Once I do, then I'm getting in that field. Thanks for the vote anyway though!

weren't we at once a free society or is that not the appropriate meaning? Settlers were able to "stake" there claim for free for a piece of land and develop and live off of it. What about indians who lived off the land and provided for themselves?! Noone even gardens these days. I live as cheaply as possible myself, having a small home, not that many extras. Cook all meals, rarely eat out and believe it or not am still on DIAL UP! Technology has really ruined society. This is the first internet post I've EVER made. I've never been on Utube, looked at much crap and am NOT INTERESTED!!!
