They were a pretty good organization at the beginning. I have nothing positive to say about them now. Many organizations start out with the best of intentions and plans but it lasts a short time before corruption and extremist's take over and ruin a good thing. Peta cares for animals, but have no regard for human life. Not to mention if you do enough research you will find Peta is doing some things that are not even good for animals anymore. +4

True that SoulSearcher. I think most people would be shocked to find out how many animals PETA euthanizes every year. We're talking adoptable animals, too. They also advocate killing every pit bull ever. Not exaggerating here. That is not animal advocacy.

A lot of animals they euthanize are beyond help. They have been taken from vivisection labs.
by Theby on November 24th, 2009
I'm speaking of the ones that ARE completely adoptable.

It's not just this that angers me. They also have compared having a pet to the slavery of African people. They think people shouldn't have pets because it is cruel.

I stand corrected! Thank you for your information. I was shocked and saddened to see it. I have just withdrawn my support of PETA.
by Theby on December 1st, 2009
I don't know about the slavery comparison. Their website recommends spaying or neutering pets. I think they should give up trying to help abandoned companion animals. It is ruining their reputation and detracting from their attempts to allay the problems of livestock animals. The magnitude of animal abuse for livestock animals is by far the worst. Companion animal abuse, although important to prevent, causes no where near as much suffering as the livestock industries. And, the public does not even seem to care about the needless suffering of livestock animals. At least most people care about cats and dogs enough to cause them to suffer. If PETA can't do anything about it some organization should.

Edit: At least most people care about cats and dogs enough to [not pay people to] cause them to suffer.

Moreover, there are already animal welfare organizations that exclusively dedicate their resources to helping companion animals. PETA or some other organizations needs to help the livestock animals.

I agree with you f_s. Discipline sent me some links of livestock slaughter. I was thoroughly horrified and could not watch the tapes right through. I felt like vomiting and was shaking all over. The practice is dispicable. Those poor animals know exactly what is about to happen to them because of the smell and panic of the animals that precede them. All animal abuse and needless suffering is disgusting.

Indeed, I feel ashamed to be part of the most powerful species that chooses gluttony over compassion. We systemically confine the animals in cramped spaces, subject them to a miserable life, and end their lives brutally at a young age. We could choose to be guardians to the weaker earthlings, but instead, we are their worst nightmare. All this is done to further the most trivial of consumers' interests. This speaks volumes about the lack of our character and values.
...
Discipline has not been on ab lately. I miss reading his arguments in support of compassion towards non-human animals.

I miss him as well. I tried to email him but I was told his email address no longer exists.
