Would you rather be around people who act nice to you but don't really mean it, or people who act mean/aggressive but truly do care about you deep inside?

    I'd choose the people with manners, because I'm better at detecting phony politeness than determining whether a hard-@$$ed person likes me. To me, if the person doesn't try to check his/her aggressive tendencies around me, then I conclude that he/she really must not care all that much. Being mean to someone we love usually drives them away eventually.
