To me they sound like sauldering rods. They are used for sauldering and made of lead. Are they flexible? Do they rust at all? Lead is flexible but will not rust. So, if a box of them fell off a truck a while ago you could just be finding them every once in a while. Do they mark your hands at all when you hold them? Also, you could try drawing on a piece of paper and see if they make a mark.
Let me know because now I'm curious :P

You're reading Ever since I was a child, I have been finding small metal rods in the street. They are about 20-25cm long, about 2mm wide and less than 1mm thick. I believe they are made of steel, but not stainless. What are they?

No, I don't think that's it. I find them one at a time and all over the place -- In the street, in parking lots, places like that. They are flat and rigid, and they are rusty sometimes.

Rusty? So they are steel then...They could be metal welding rods? Hard to say without seeing them sorry. That was my best bet.
