My town has a leash law.
However, my property abuts the town line, and the abutting town has no leash law. The neighboring riff raff dogs wander back and forth, chasing cats and raising hell.
I even had one steal a piece of 2" PVC pipe I was preparing to use.It was four feet long; probably would have been comical to watch that mutt trying to run back home between all of the trees, carrying my pipe...heh heh
I didn't think it was very funny at the time.
Then there was the one who came around trying to steal a deer I was skinning in the garage. I couldn't blame Fido for wanting a piece of that action, but you never try to come between a man and his deer...especially when he's got a very large, very sharp knife.
I just growled and barked like a dog until he left.
Wife didn't think anything of it. I wonder if that says something about her perception of my sanity....
Where we lived before, we had the local garbage rummager dog...
She belonged to the neighbors, about a quarter mile down the road. They refused to leash their dog, in spite of the leash law.
One day, I threatened to shoot the dog if I saw it again on my property. That dog used to chase deer all of the time, and when you see them doing that, the general consensus among law enforcement and fish and game enforcement is "shoot first and ask questions later". When I reminded the neighbor lady of that, she thtreatened to call the police.
When I described how I came home one day to find my wife out gathering all of her soiled "unmentionables" that the stupid dog had scattered far and wide, the lady started crying.
I quit while I was ahead.
Aren't I well-trained? Been living alone for months and I still always put the seat down.

Wow, sounds like you HAVE had your share of urchins. I get most pissed off because my neighborhood has tons of unleashed small dogs. They all seem to want to charge my leashed pit bulls on our walks. You *know* good and well if a little dog attacked my sweet babies, the owner would still make a big deal about a pit bull "going after" HER dog. Sigh...

We don't have a pit bull,but we do have a Rottweiler, a dog nearly as hated and misunderstood as the pit bulls.
She's great dog- vigilant, with a seeming selflessness, in that she would lay aside her own fear and defend her people, and her Pug playmate, and the kitties. I worked second shift for years, and I always had a sense of reassurance, knowing that she was there with my wife and daughters.
