    Thank you for your question.

    There are a number of things both good and bad.

    The good things include:

    * A range of talented musicians, composers and writers such as Tchaikovsky, Dostoevsky, Chekhov and Tolstoy;

    * Distinctive architecture especially the churches;

    * A rich cuisine;

    * Lovely art including icons;

    * Great sportsman in a wide range of sports.

    The bad include a range of repressive regimes under the Tsars and the Communists.
