A batter hits a dink towards the mound. He drops his bat in fair territory in front of the plate. The ball hits the ground in front of the mound and rolls back towards home and is stopped by the bat in fair territory. Is the ball in play?

Baseball batter in the batters box hits a ball into fair territory, the backspin on the ball takes the ball back into the batters box where the batter-now runner is still located and hits the runner while still in the box. Is it a dead ball?
