There are many things that could allow for such an effect. Basically anything that is heavy enough to counteract the boyancy effect of water, and is also able to provide a liquid seal.
A ball of apoxy would probably do it. A very large marble would, as would a round piece of rubber.
You've lots of possibilities.

You're reading My earth systems teacher gave me a challenge. A 2 litter bottle painted black, water is in the botte. When tipped over water comes out but then stops. I need to know what the item is that is in the bottle. The clues are it is a common household item.
