My dad traveled alot. He would bring home the sugar packets from his coffee orders (he liked it black) and mom would add them to the sugar bowl. Note: He did not take them from table settings like in diners.
My mom used coupons, alot. And she stocked up on things when they were cheap or in season. There were always fresh frozen sliced peaches or strawberries in the freezer.
