I became engaged to be married a month ago. To my surprise my fiance bought my wedding ring. Shouldn't I have picked it out?

Not necessarily. In some cultures, tradition had been that the man asks permission for the woman's hand in marriage from the parents and then proposes with a ring he selected. I think that your fiance might have also wanted to achieve the element of surprise.

But if you are unhappy with his selection, I would be honest and politely let him know. I think the good news is that you can go to the jewelry store and possibly exchange it for something you both like. Then, you can pick out the wedding bands together. Congratulations.
