Stimulation of the senses is an ancient story. The methods employed today are of modern nature but the same were used in ancient times also.Take the case of courtesans in the ancient kingdoms, harems, baths, stimulants, etc etc..the list is endless. Some of the most brilliant architectures in the Hindu temples depicts forms in various stimulating poses too, that itself would amount to pornography if viewed from senses perspective! The delusion of the senses takes place by such methods and the physical arousal also happens. These are body changes to the surrounding situations which are healthy but excesses in any form may not be conducive to that human being. These are methods employed for human progression in moderation only. Any such acts in excess are habit forming which may be hard to break.+

    • I asked the question seeing the proliferation of porn websites, Krisnaknows. They must certainly be having a very wide viewership. Wondered what will happen to those hooked to these sites 20 years from now! They may not be moderate in viewing these.
Thank you very much for your answer giving a historical perspective. I have heard of our local Jamindar arranging live porn shows with real actors for his friends to watch in the pre-cinema era. Also seen the sculptures in Konarak and Sri Rangam.
Then you must have read Jaya Deva's Ashtapathi. Sringara cannot be put in verse better than that with a devotional twist. Bhartruhari's Sringara Satakam does it in a stright forward analysis fashion.
      +6.

    • Geeta Govindam is the book I have read of Jayadeva.Unfortunately I have not read either of the mentioned books.Since my base is English and I am from North we do not have much of the south literature except for few which I can access.I am always fascinated by the south Indian Temples and have to visit most of them.Hopefully I am starting from Tirupati in November and hope to continue that in the near future.Have a great evening.

    • Jayadeva was based in Puri, Orissa and wrote all his works in Sanskrit. Geeta Govindam is an excellent example of how Sringara Rasam can provoke Bhakti Yoga.
Bhartruhari's location is not known but he too wrote in Sanskrit verse. After writing Sringara Satakam in youth he went on to write 'Neeti Satakam' as a Grihastha and then Vairagya Satakam at his Vanaprasta Ashram. These are the 3 Satakas known to have been authored by Bhartruhari. Some claim he was from Kerala and other claim he was from Bihar.
Have a nice experience visiting the temples of south India. You will find those in Tamil Nadu and Kerala most interesting. I am not excluding Andhra and Karnataka - only I have not visited many in these states except for those in Mangalore District of Karnataka. They are great.
      Thanks, krisnaknows.
