Betasig's answer is mostly correct. As a Baptist, I don't consider myself a protestant, but I am far closer in theology to protestants than to Catholics.
We Baptists believe that Mary was the mother of Jesus. She concieved Jesus by the power of God. God never slept with her, and she also was born from a woman. The God who created man by speaking him into existance could certainly speak Mary into pregnancy. She was the only woman in the world past or present to be impregnated without sex.
Mary was favored over all women because God chose her to bear and raise Jesus. No other reason. She was favored, or blessed because she bore the saviour of mankind. She is no different than any other mother, honored because of her sacrafice for her son, loved for her love to him. We love Jesus because He first loved us, and we love our mothers because they first loved us too. A person to be honored, certainly, but she has no power to answer prayer, and no authority in Heaven that any other woman does not have. In short, we believe what the Bible says. Nothing more, nothing less.
I am very sure that the beliefs of Protestants are the same. I know for fact that Presbyterians, Lutherans, and most Methodists agree.
Bunker, Rev 12 says the woman was sent into the wilderness to hide from the dragon while still pregnant. it makes no mention of her as queen of Heaven. It tells of the dragon trying to persecute her, and drown her, but the earth helped by swallowing up the water the serpent spit at her.It says she was given the wings of an eagle so she could fly above the earth and escape the dragon. No where in Rev 12 does it say Mary is the queen.
The only place in the Bible that mentions the"queen of heaven" is in the book of Jeremiah. Do you really want to worship this queen?
Jeremiah 44:18 But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.
Again, The queen of Heaven title is used by a false Christ. READ Jeremiah 44. This description of Mary you keep clinging to does not make her a queen. She is a Saint of God, I agree. So am I and so is every other saved Christian. She is a favored woman, and so is every other saved woman. She is not Jesus wife, as she would be if she were the queen, she is His mother. Jesus far outgrew her telling Him what to do at about 12 years of age.
Luke 2:49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?
That answer to my question of where were you would have got my son a beating, but not Jesus, He was God.
Back to your goofy argument that the catholic church was the first church...UGGGH! So your contention is that there was no Christian church between Christ's death and the 3rd century, when the catholic bunch finally got around to organizing? Oh.wait, you say that Peter was the first pope. So if that were true, then think you not, Peter, John ,Matthew, Mark, Luke, Paul, Timothy, Barnabas, or even Ol Doubting Thomas might have called him that? If you can show me that, in scripture, not catachism, MAYBE I Might begin to believe it is possible. Right now, sorry Charlie, but only real tuna can be chicken of the sea. I can't recall ever reading of a Bible character calling Peter "your eminence", holy father, or offering to build a pope-mobile....Paul was a tentmaker, maybe if Peter was the pope, Paul could have made the first Vatican...

Absolutely correct. She is not the "Queen of Heaven" and has no special power or ability. Jesus had to save her too.

Catholics do not believe that she was "special" either she was deemed a saint to GUIDE us IN prayer, not to pray TO

"she gave birth to a son, a male child, destined to rule all the nations w/ an iron rod" this son is Jesus.

As a Baptist you ARE a protestant, whether or not you like it. All non-catholic Christians are, by definition, protestant, having come from the protesters against Catholicism.

First of all, The Holy Spirit guides us in prayer. The Bible says so and secondly the Bible also tells us that we are not to even try to talk to the dead and Mary, mother of Jesus, is dead. She was just a woman whom God deemed worthy. She was still a sinner and needed Jesus to save her just like the rest of the world. The Bible says "All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and if any man says he is without sin, then he is a liar." That includes Mary too.

I might be jumping into an old debate here but most baptist would see themselves as not protestant because they believe that they have existed along side the catholic church since the time of Christ. They never left the Catholic church. This is how most explain it to me. Some would say that they came from followers of John the Baptist. And there were always other religious sects that existed along side of Catholics. Baptists see themselves as one of those groups. I am not sure exactly who they would say their group came from because they use to have different names etc. I am no baptist history buff.

People who say these things are making it up. Historically, that is all nonsense. There were many stripes of faith within the Catholic church, and the East was not encompassed by it, but largely the Church as a whole was limited to the Catholic version of it. Baptists stem from the Reformation and folks like Martin Luther, who split from within the Catholic church, protesting against its errors. It is nothing to be ashamed of to be following his lead! I'm more on John Calvin's side, but I see nothing wrong with being part of the reforming of a more faithful church emerging from what had become an error-filled one!

i would like to say something to you ...............
your speech shows that you are a protestant [ god help u ]
first of all, you said that whoever worships the queen of heaven will have so n so problems well, my dear ignorant friend never ever have any christian worshiped mother mary its you people who say we worship mother mary ............ no! we don't worship mother mary we respect her. since she is safely kept by god himself in rev ........ she can intercede for us, pray for us to god and yes you know the formers of the protestant group - luther and zingi respected mary and prayed to her as mother ................
people like you don't even have read bible with child like understanding, the holy archangel gabriel who enters the most holy presence of god said to mother mary "hail" which is refered to kings and queens only .......... and the last ch. of rev explains well that whoever removes any of part of holy bible is cursed forever and you people have removed 7 holy books from the bible and you critize others ............. and you people say that the holy virgin mary is "egg-shell" hehehe .... read the bible luke says " from now on every generations will call me blessed " these are words of mother mary and we do revere her as blessed mary and you people like the dragon and that damn's followers try to hurt mother mary ......... none of us ever expect miracles from our mother mary but we do pray to her to ask her most holy son for the blessing and healing because we know how impure and friend you said that no one refers st. peter as pope [please read st.john last chapter no one else but the lord himself said to st. peter " tend my sheep " well not once but thrice and you ask for proof that st. peter was appointed to be the shepherd the pope !!!!!!!!!!! hehehheh and this too my friend, the lord very sadly but truly said that "whoever rejects you , rejects me and whoever rejects me rejects the one who send me " i hope you learn from your mistake
