Just keep it in the case whenever you're not playing it- even in the house. It's handy, and looks cool keeping your guitar on a stand; but in the desert enviornment, it's almost a sure bet that the average humidity in your room will be in the optimal 40-50% range next to never. Air conditioning and heaters both suck humidity out of a room. Besides that, there's not much to do except monitor your guitar. Staying vigilant can (as Barney Phife used to say) "Nip it in the bud." if anything's getting somewhere it shouldn't be getting. Also, if going from one extreme to the other (it happens more than you'd think in the desert), give your guitar a chance to "acclimate" to the change in temp before taking it out of the case- especially if it's painted with nitrocellulous lacquer to prevent cracks or checking in the finish.

OH! And never, ever, EVER leave your guitar in the car or in its trunk.... EVER! :o)
