Am I responsible for my husbands debt even if I am not on the debt (ie: medical?)

    Depends on the state you live in. If it is a community property state that you live in, you both share any prior debts as well as any assets accrued prior to the marriage unless you have a pre-nup or post-nup that states otherwise.
