You can be both. I am technically partially-agnostic but still atheist as I do not believe god(s) exist but I do not have definitive knowledge. Making me agnostic in one definition of the word but on the other hand I have knowledge of where god(s) are not such as not physically on Mt. Olympus so I am not completely agnostic. Your gnostic position affects your theist position but you can have all sorts of combinations of the two.
