You're reading My mother has always been very needy she's now old and depressed. I know I should have her to live with me, but though I love her we have always had an argumentative relationship. What would you do?

I know what you mean. The problem is that because she is depressed there is no pleasing her. If I take her for a drive, it's boring. If I take her for a meal, it's horrid. If I have a discussion with her, I'm wanting an argument, the bed she sleeps in at my house is uncomfortable (according to her), whatever I do I can't make her happy it's impossible. I just get so frustrated I want to tear my hair out.

I had a really looong answer for you but AB ate it and it's gone. Your situation sounds very familiar, if you would give my mom diamonds she would complain they were too hard. I do not envy you your position. I would suggest getting her a physical though. In my mom's case the depression was actually a symptom of an undiagnosed condition.

I have the very same situation with my mother. She and my husband are as gasoline to fire. I get overwhelmed by all the stuff.
