Owl 8 - 8

Question

Help answer this question below.

Is it necessary to count the number of letters in a certain word/phrase/name? I believe small children of 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 often do it because at that age it's considered educational. Any views from any of you, please? In my view it isn't OCD at all.

It's not necessary. I write every day, and words longer than six letters or so, I would just have to count them by hand if someone asked. I know how to spell words without knowing how many letters are in them, and it seldom comes up that I must know the number of letters in a word, unless I am creating a password, maybe, or trying to fit my name in a form which has a limited amount of space. So it's quite rare, and I'm happy to just count them the once or twice a year that I need to.

That said, if it gives you comfort and a sense of accomplishment to be able to do that, don't let people dissuade you from your hobby.

    • As far as I know, on Mastermind, when there is a tie on both points & passes, the player whose name has the greater, or greatest, number of letters will win. Hope that helps!

    • Should there be a tie on letters as well, then we have a tie break.
