the skull is actually formed of several plate bones which fuse after birth: 1 frontal (the forehead), 2 parietal (top/side), 2 temporal (side, below parietal), 1 occipital (back of the head), and 2 sphenoid (between frontal and temporal)... there are also several small bones that form the face
