I have a Shure SM mic that I need to plug into my camera. When I use an xlr to 1/8 inch cable into the camera's mic input, there is no sound. Do I have to buy an XLR converter?

    hi,

you don't need to buy a XLR converter, you just need to insert a 4.7 K 1/4 watt resistor across the line going to your camera mic input, then series 0.05 capacitor

which goes to your mic positive terminal.all the negative lines are connected to each other.
