    Statistically? Yes.

But that is only because they don't tend to take chances the way that men do.
Of course, there are some women (one of whom is in my carpool) who'll misread the stats to say that they have more raw skill, and drive accordingly. My aquaintance is more agressive behind the wheel than any of the three guys in the carpool, yours truly included, and riding with her is a scary, uncomfortable experience.
She justifies her driving habits by citing statistics. She ignores the fact that the statistics only reflect favorably on women because, unlike herself, most women are simply more careful than most men.

    In terms of actual SKILL?
It's a demonstrated fact that women have less ability with spatial relationships. That will translate directly to their driving skill.
Of course there are exceptions to this: Danica Patrick could drive circles around most guys.
If any of you have seen the current "Ice Road Truckers" series on The History Channel, you've probably seen Lisa Kelly, who can back an eighteen wheeler better than I ever will.

Speaking clinically, women typically have less-acute night vision than men, so that will obviously play into their driving ability.

    • I've read that women see better in the dark and men see better in bright light. Here's a website that says that and other interesting facts about men and women. I'm not sure how reliable it is, but I've read the night vision thing in more than one place so I think that's true.

    • Im blind as a bat in the dark! Seriously, I ahd to have my husband hang a light over our barn door so i could go check the horses at night. I couldn't find the barn door (no joke) Driving at night is simply terrifying. I can see the headlights of the oncoming cars, but I cant tell which lane they are in. Needless to say, I limit myself to the dirt roads after dark.
