Help answer this question below.

There is one facet to religion that I have never been able to understand. - If I am truly a bad person, show no respect to God, and claim to be an atheist, when I die and go to hell, why would Satan want to punish me?

    Why do you think satan is the one who does the punishment?Revelation 20:10,says satan was cast into the lake of fire,and will be tormented day and night forever.So satan isn't the one doing the punishing.Your enduring God's wrath for all eternity.Has nothing to do with satan.
