A Zen Master once wrote, "Teaching one how to be enlightened is like giving medicine to the dead." What do you perceive this to mean?

    I think it means that you can't TEACH someone to be enlightened. It comes naturally.

    • i would agree. from my understanding, buddhism teaches that it's not our responsibility to teach others because this attitude encourages one to have an ego or come from a perspective that we know more than what we really do. personally it sounds like somthing cautioning humility. but i find that eastern philosophies is written in such a way that has multiple meanings...some more subtle than others. that even a single line demand a great ammount of pondering. so theres likely many more takes on it.
