Scrooge had a tombstone. I'm donating my body to science so my family doesn't have to spend one red cent to bury me. I win! +5

    • No Phillis life begins again when you can please yourself, we are not just mothers. when my three grew up, I was in college same time as my youngest. started a career, they dont stop being your children just because they are adult. They do become closer friends with you. When they have kids you have more to share with them. Less reliant on you financially and physically but the best is yet to come. Empty nest syndrome was never a problem for me. I enjoy my life, I look at them and see the results of struggles in my past. I see I didnt do a bad job, they are continuing the good work with their kids.Reap the rewards, you earned them.

    • I am so afraid of feeling that empty nest, moley! I feel empty when my 11 year old goes to camp for a week! I feel something vital is just.....missing! I'm going to have to learn from you, how to handle that. I miss my babies terribly after a few days. Maybe it's just because they're so young? My little one is 4.

    • It is probably more that you worry what is happening when you are not caring for them. You need to plan for the future before it arrives. when my youngest was in school doing his final exams I was studying psychology at the same level as the exams he was doing.I already had a job. When he went away to college I was in college too. I was close to home though. I embarked on my college career at age 47, Studied to be a social worker, ended up supervising a team. it was a very liberating experience, So much so for me that I ended an unsatisfactory 29 year marriage, I had become Mary, not someones wife, not someones Mother. I was still those people but now there was a new me that I liked much better. I stopped taking shit, started living my life a little more for me. Still there for the kids, but if they needed me, not just because I needed them to make me feel useful. I am useful, I like me.I matter in my own right.

    • WoW - what a success story!! I love it that you told me about it. You are an inspiration, hands down. I have brain damage, so I am not able to work. But my personality is such that I will never be viewed as someone's wife or mother, and nothing else. Thank heavens!

    • You type well, you look at what others say, you see what they mean, There will be a future for someone who can do that. You do not physically have to be somewhere to do that. You will find a niche.

    • It isn't my intelliengence level that is affected (which is why employers don't believe me when I've tried to tell them about it). It's my short-term memory loss that has gotten me fired since I was old enough to work. I can't remember simple instructions, or the correct time to do a particular part of the job. I can't tell you how many doctor's appointments I've had to pay for even though I forgot to go :(

    • There will be something that makes use of your intelligence, your understanding of people that is not tied to time or any schedule. Something that can be done at your own pace. You can communicate well so there will always be a place, you need to find it. It wont be conventional. Think outside the box and keep looking.
