You're reading Why are right wing America suddenly attacking the NHS in the UK? It has it flaws but i personally think its great because i know when i get sick i'll get the treatment i need without having to worry about money.

I did see Sicko - you remember the lady that got to come home with a suitcase full of inhalers? My husband was on the same medication. He hasn't filled a prescription in over two years, because it's just too expensive. Apparently, Americans who can't afford insurance aren't entitled to oxygen.

Hey Peetee, thanks for recognizing that we're not all ignorant inbred fools!

No worries. Yeah, I do tend to go overboard if I'm not careful. Needless to say, the ones I meet in the flesh are normal, it's just the ones I read about or see on TV that are really crazy - you know, empty pots make the loudest noise, and all that.

True. I used to think that they were just a very outspoken minority until I moved to central Louisiana. Oh. My. God. Someone get me out of here!

That sounds scary. Do you mean to say that the ones I actually meet are the exceptions, not the rule? Maybe they got fed up and left the US and that's how I came to meet them? Uh-oh ...

Peetee - I think it depends on location. Louisiana - red state. Florida - red state. New York City - much greater percentage of sensible people.

Lady Alathia is right. Another factor to consider is that the people you have met are more conscious of the world around them. Those of us who have lived overseas for extended periods tend to see America's issues in a very different light.
