Hundreds of years ago we used to call a spider a 'Coppe' hence Coppewebs. The word coppe is no longer used and now we call the web a spider make a Cobweb which I suppose is much easier to pronounce.
I have no problems with small spiders on webs. It\'s the brown ones that scuttle around the basement floor that really get me.

We keep getting spiders in our apt. Tonight we had a gigantic one. What type of poison can I use to kill them without harming my cats?

I think the word Coppe is old English but its origins might be Anglo Saxon. The German word for spider is Spinne.
