If it weren't for the death of Jesus, do you think people would still be stoned to death for collecting sticks on the wrong day?

You're reading Did god create us or did we create god? Explain why you think the way you do.

I find the reason behind your belief of god creating us "because I have had experiences that support my faith." with said experiences being times you should have been hurt but weren't, as both invalid and offensive. To affirm the existence of a god, particularly one that has control over single events, is to refute the existence of free will which is demeaning to myself and other people who believe and, as far as can evidence, are in control of our own decisions. If this refutation of free will in exchange for god's will follows as you implicitly suggest that it does, than no one can be held responsible for their actions. Quick, let us release rapists and murderers from their prison cells so that god's will might reign in its full glory. As for babies born with Aids in Africa, well who chooses their time? The answers you suggest were given to you by your god, I would suggest were the workings of your consciousness acting out the evolutionary gift of self preservation. But this rational theory is outside of your omnipotent god's cognitive grasp. While you may be content to part with all responsibility and repercussions that come hand in hand with being a self actualising human being I would much prefer to be in control of my own life, and leave your god to save you from the depths of hell, whilst he gives aids to babies.

Interesting thoughts; but no, I'm pretty sure that I had nothing to do with getting out of the situations that coulda/shoulda killed me. They were unique circumstances to say the least. Although, assuredly, I believe in Free Will...THAT is what allows me to HAVE a relationship with God. Jesus can knock at the door forever...but WE have to CHOOSE to answer it, and invite him in...that's Free Will.
