Foreign horror films (depending on where you live)
They push the envelope much farther than American horror films.
I have a list of about 50 films considered to be the most gruesome films to date. I haven't watched all of them yet, but they are in my Netflix que...I don't know if they're scary, just gory and hard to stomach. Some of the ones I've seen I'll truly never forget.
When The Ring first released it scared the crap out of me. I can watch it now and be fine. But I remember going home and not being able to sleep without the light on. So did my mom's 50-year-old co-worker.
But it was one of those films where the theatre made it scarier. You could watch it at home and be fine.
The Grudge gave my dad night terrors.
But I'd recommend Old Boy directed by Chan-wook Park and Audition by Takashi Miike - anything by him in fact.
What idea or concept hasn't been used in the horror genre yet?

thnx, the ring creeped me out a lil, and the grudge did nothing for me, both the original and the american. But I will be sure to check out the other one. :) +6
