Help answer this question below.

The rear door latch on my 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee will not work. How do I force it open so i can fix it?

Try removing the inside finisher panel. The panel may be secured by screws, clips and other means, but once removed the latch and lock linkage should be accessible and the door latch can be opened.
