If a person is considered 80% disabled, are they allowed to work? I see people going to college for free on entitlements (gag me). Are they going to get a degree for free and then magically say they're cured so they can go get a go

Consider yourself gagged. the program your talking about is called vocational rehab. it is run by the Veterans Administration, and it is for disabled veterans. they pay 100% tuition for school, and in addition they give you a monthly stipend to live off of. What you may not understand is that many disabled vets may not have physical disabilities, but emotional ones, and they may not be able to maintain a job working around people or under stress or any number of situations, for the most part, they help them to start small businesses or even work from home. I am entitled, since i did serve in the military and i am a disabled vet. so, basically your saying that we don't deserve to go to college for free?

    • Actually it is not voc rehab. I already know what that is. I'm not even talking about veterans. I'm talking about people who walk into my office, completely uninjured (and certainly unwounded) and bilk the system.

    • Quite honestly Olan, only you know if you deserve your free education or not. Disability fraud is rampant among vererans, many of whom do not even fill out their own paperwork. In my state there is wide-spread abuse among VA workers filling out vets paperwork to qualify them as at least 60% disabled. Maybe you, like many veterans are truly disabled, I can't possibly know that. But anyone who thinks all vets are somehow above fraud and cheating are kidding themselves. If there is free money to be had, people will lie, cheat and steal to get it. End of Story.

    • the VA disability system has been broke for a while, this I will agree with. I know a women who gets 80% disability because she started smoking crack while she was in the Army. myself, I have had a number of Knee surgeries, and also suffer from PTSD (did 3 combat tours, infantry, airborne)while I was not aware of my issue, I was having a very hard time dealing with things and didn't know why. I only wanted to be like i was before, hard charging and a go getter. as far as people filling out the forms, well like every other government program, somebody finds a way to make money off of the people. they have those here, but they charge a percentage of the disability for filing the claim. I myself have helped friends do the paperwork online. bottom line, in the US the notion of getting something for nothing is very rampant. some of the best jobs you can get actually produce nothing, and pay more than a job that actually produces something (such as a stock broker or hedge fund manager)

    • OMG Are you serious??? None of you know a thing about disabled vets and yet benefits and if you work for a school then you should know. Disability is measured by a percentage from the VA. Someone who seems perfectly normal may have a lot of UNSEEN issues. I know of a specific vet who looks completely normal and has an immense disability. He can not remember things. He has lost his short term memory and while some may think that is oh so funny for this ma I can tell you it is definitely not. What you also dont know is that these vets arent getting a free ride. They paid into a fund called the GI bill. Another words they loaned Uncle Sam $2400 at the beginning of their term of service. It operates like any other loan out there. The govt borrows from the soldier and pays it back with intrest. When you money is paid back degree or not you are cut off. And really!? Seriously!? It gags you that someone who fought for your freedom is getting an education??!! I would love to meet the mother that is proud of you. These guys and no not all of them but MOST endure months and years being treated like they have no rights, fighting for a country that all but spits in their face and you dont want them to get an education so they can at least attempt to do something with the life they have left?!?!?! You are obviously a taker! Gimme gimme gimme and what have you given back. I am ashamed of you. There are those who would play the game and cheat the system and be a taker like you but for the honest soldiers who deserve better you should take the shirt off your back.
