It is my guess that you will be given a green card and allowed to permanently remain in the USA.
Also, there is case history that people in the USA for 5+ years, may apply for citizenship.

My gf is here on a vwp from Austria. If we get married will she have to return home at all? Can she stay while awaiting a green card?

You're reading I have been a student under F-1 VISA for 9 years. I will have a PhD soon. I have heard we can get a green card ourselves since we have lived here longer than 5 years. I have 2 children who are American citizen. Please advise!
