The best technique to develop finger strength IMO is legato. On the guitar, legato is basically getting notes to sound smoothly in succession using hammerons and pulloffs and without any picking. You can google this technique and find many tabs for exercises. I like to move chromatically up the neck on all six strings using all fingers to play legato.

You will know your hand is getting a workout when practicing this technique. Obviously, getting notes to sound without picking takes extra effort as opposed to just fretting them. Playing clean legato is one of the most difficult techniques on guitar and if you want to become good at it, expect to spend an hour a day just practicing legato. Still, it does wonders for finger strength, independence, and accuracy across the board. Be sure to take breaks and to stretch your fingers and wrists.
